Music

The Music program at Simonds is 100% funded through the SMTF. Without your financial support, our students wouldn’t be enriched with a well-rounded education that includes free weekly music instruction in each grade and yearly grade-level performances.

WEEKLY MUSIC CLASSES

From Transitional Kindergarten to 5th grade, each class joins our fabulous instructor, Mrs. Micaela Johnson from Rhythm and Moves, for one period of music education every week. The program is adapted to each grade and follows state and national standards. Students enjoy learning about everything from rhythms, to instruments experimentation, to exposure to different composers and styles. Additionally, each grade presents a musical adapted to their curriculum for parents and family.

CHOIR (Extracurricular music program held after school)

Our new and wonderful Choir Director, Mr. Corey Miller, from Castillero Middle School, will lead the Simonds choir. Members of the choir perform in the Winter and Spring performances and at many school events throughout the year. Simonds 4th and 5th graders have priority, but 3rd graders may register if space allows.

Under the continued excellent leadership of Mr. Ron Bowman, Band Director at Castillero Middle School, 4th and 5th graders learn instruments that include: flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and percussion. Students may borrow the SMTF-purchased and district-owned instruments when available or use their own. Parents are invited to performances in the Fall and Spring. Simonds’ Band prepares students to enter middle school Intermediate Band.

STRINGS (Extracurricular music program held after school)

Under the guidance of our new and fantastic Orchestra Director, Mr. Scott Krijnen from Castillero Middle School, 4th and 5th graders learn string instruments like violin, viola, and cello.
